Open up your heart… and your arms! Today is National Hugging Day!
As you might guess, this day is an annual event dedicated to the underrated art form of the hug, or the cwtch (c-oo-t-ch) as we say in Wales! We all love hugs, from the one-armed bro hug to full on bear hugs... and I am a HUGE fan!
Hugging is one of the simplest ways to show affection, it’s something we all do with our loved ones all the time, without really thinking about it! However, it is not something that’s done enough these days! National Hugging Day aims to encourage people to hug more!
Hugging is a form of sharing support too, it makes people feel happy, it shows compassion and understanding, and hugging shows that emotions are okay to feel because they’re normal. Kids love hugs too, and they are generally the ones who hug the most!
With everything the last two years has brought us, the smallest act of support and connection like a hug can make such a difference to a person’s mental health and mindset. We don’t tend to reach out and ask for support or to ask for a hug so we should give one to those around us just because we can… and they make us smile too!
Let’s get hugging today! See how many you can do!
